Especially for McKenzie ~

There's something about the holidays that brings out all the traditional recipes. This is one of my favorites~this is not your basic green bean casserole~this is "Over the TOP Green Bean & Corn Casserole"

Another "holiday favorite" recipe to come tomorrow (pecan pie)

Green Bean and Corn Casserole
1 can french cut green beans (I use 1 1/2 cans)
1 bag white baby corn (frozen)
Drain beans and put in greased 9 x 13 pan
Mix together: 1 chopped onion
1 can cream celery soup
1 C. sour cream
2 C. grated cheddar cheese
Spread mixture and cheese on top of corn and beans

In zip lock bag:
1 tube of Ritz crackers
1 bag sliced almonds
Toss together

Melt 1 stick of butter
Put butter in bag and shake well
Pour over casserole
Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes
It will bubble on top and look yummy when done

I've never made divinity before~
but after seeing this recipe and photo I think I'm ready to give it a try
Sweetiepie LOVES divinity
I bet I could win him over with this little goodie!!

  • 4 cup(s) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup(s) light corn syrup
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon(s) peppermint extract
  • 6 drop(s) red food coloring

1. Oil a 9 by 9 pan and a spoon and set aside. Combine sugar and corn syrup in a medium saucepan with 3/4 cup water and cook over medium heat until mixture reaches 260 degrees on a candy thermometer , about 20 minutes.
2. Beat egg whites to stiff peaks in a large bowl using an electric mixer set on medium-high speed. Reduce speed to medium and slowly pour sugar mixture into egg whites. Add peppermint and continue to beat until mixture is very thick and fluffy, about 12 minutes.
3. Immediately transfer to prepared pan and smooth using back of oiled spoon. Dot divinity surface with red food coloring and drag a skewer through to create a marbled effect. Let stand at room temperature until firm, about 2 hours. Slice into 1-inch squares. Note: For a simple variation, drop dollops of divinity batter onto an oiled baking sheet, then top with chocolate kisses.

This is our newest project~
There's just something relaxing about sitting down for a few minutes and putting a few pieces of the puzzle together.
Everyone that comes and hangs out at our house comes in and tries to find a piece or two.........
Kinda of makes you want to linger a little LONGER!!

For RuthAnn~

A few months ago I acquired this top shelf from my friend RuthAnn.
A little paint and new polka dot knobs and she looks pretty good!!
I love it!

Another re-purposed set of shelves
another paint job, some of the shelves removed and

Waaallaaa~
A new piece in my breakfast room

Thanks RuthAnn......call me anytime I can haul away some of your stuff!
Glad to help you out!!

The view from my front door every single day......
Long may she wave!!!
Thanks to all those who serve or have served for our freedoms!!

I love oatmeal
but, too many carbohydrates~
so, I never eat it.......
but then I saw this quote on the Susan Branch blog
and decided I deserve a bowl once in awhile
so I think I'll celebrate Veteran's Day, tomorrow
with a bowl of OATMEAL
after all, they say it's good for you
a girl's gotta splurge once in awhile......RIGHT?

We are blessed.............

Wednesday was not a good day for us.
Newel came home during the day and found someone had broken into our home.
They trashed all the screens and tried to get in through a window......
No LUCK!!

Next came busting a whole in the security screen door.....then took some kind of saw drill and drilled a hole to get their hand through to undo the locks.....

Now it's time to get through the second door..........
totally broke out the window and put their hand through to get through 2 more locks

Then they were inside. Trashed our bedroom and closet and the TV room. Went through all drawers and stole anything they could hurry and carry out....leaving their mess all over the place. I didn't take pictures because they stole my camera...........but I remembered I had an old camera and wanted to save a few pictures.

As the week went on it could only get better. I got out the fall decorations and tried to make our home feel like it hadn't had "STRANGERS" inside.
So, fall finally arrived at the Turley's and we are "giving thanks" that we are safe and sound. Material things can be replaced and our home has a sweet spirit to it once again, and for this we are truly blessed!!
