Choose your Ward!! A little mormon humor.....

I found this article to be hilarious!! Thanks Kay for the laughs!!
I promise you if I could choose my ward, I'd choose FAIRFIELD!!!

Choose your ward
Find your niche in specialty wards

Robert Kirby Tribune columnist - Salt Lake Tribune

Most Sunday mornings, you'll find me on a pew in the Rosecrest 1st Ward
chapel. It's where I'm supposed to go to church. Lucky for me, it's also
where I want to go. Technically, Mormons don't have a choice. For
church, we're bound by the geography of the ward boundary. We worship
where we live.

The only time Mormons can switch wards without also contacting a Realtor
is when we attend specialty wards.
For example, I went to a Spanish-speaking ward in
West Jordan for a while.
Specialty wards allow members with specific common needs to worship
together and support each other in their exclusive part of the Lord's
vineyard.
There are (or have been) lots of LDS specialty wards,
including singles wards, college wards, deaf wards, ethnic wards and
nudist wards.

OK, I made up that last one. There are even seasonal "snowbird wards"
in places where Mormon RV owners congregate.

I talked it over with my friend and we think the specialty-ward idea needs to be improved on in our ever-changing and increasingly divided culture.

For example:

  • There needs to be a late ward, a ward where Mormons who are perpetually late for church could attend and not feel bad about dragging their herd in 15 minutes late. The only problem with a late ward would be showing up late for a meeting that was supposed to start late in the first place. Eventually, you would end up with a ward that ran out of time before it started. "Welcome to the Tardy 3rd Ward, brothers and sisters. We will close now by singing hymn No.. 145."
  • Given the high birthrate among Mormons, I thought about the need for maternity wards. Except that we already have those. They're called married student wards.
  • A Star Trek ward might do well. The bishop would preside from "the bridge" instead of the stand. High-council Sunday would be referred to as a "Klingon Sunday."
  • Harley riders congregate to the exclusion of just about everyone else. Why not an LDS biker ward? White shirts and neckties go well with black leather.
  • Ken really wants to attend a concealed-weapons ward. He says church would be a lot more interesting if real personal risks were involved in disagreeing with a lesson.
  • There could be a texting ward for teenagers. Bear your testimony withyour thumb. In 25 years, they'll all belong to carpal-tunnel wards.
  • At the less-active ward, maybe there'll be a meeting and maybe there won't.
  • Testimony meeting in an anger-management ward might be interesting.Nobody's going to sleep through, "HEY! I KNOW THE CHURCH IS TRUE, STUPID!"
  • A big hit would be the Multi Level Marketing ward, also known as a "Gadianton robber ward." With all the financial scamming that goes on in this culture, it would be nice to have them all in one place for a three-hour block weekly.
  • I think a Democrat ward is a good idea, although in Utah the best we could probably hope for is a Democrat branch.

Here fishie, fishie, fishie!!!

Ok, so how CUTE are these little fishies in a bag!! Adorable wouldn't you say?!? Yeah!
As you know, I'm the new Enrichment Leader and I'm always looking for new, different, fun and easy ideas that others would be interested in too. I just think these are so stinkin' cute. I think we'll try to make them at one of our Enrichment Night's.......I'll run it past the committee and see what they think. What do YOU think? Click here to learn. Once you click then scroll down till you see the little fishies!

I guess this is confusing for all of you to try to read my mind. This is fish-in-a-bag glycerin soaps and they are sure to fool your kids--at least for a minute. They say they're easier than you think to make.
Look at the website above, she'll show you how to do them. Let me know what you think.

Fondue, Friends and Fun......

Cross another thing off the bucket list. We received 2 electric fondue pots for Christmas with the promise of a fondue dinner being provided. Well, tonight was the night. Between our busy schedules we finally got to enjoy a fun filled dipping delight!!

Thanks for the fun, yummy night. We all ate til we thought we'd pop! Good food and GREAT company~they even stayed and cleaned up the mess. It just doesn't get any better than that!!

We'll use our pots often and create many memories!!.........Marla and Terri.....I can see a fondue party in the near future and I guess we could include our hubby's........what do you think? I know NT won't let it happen without him! And, Jeff and Jenny, our next treat will have to be a fondue party!! We'll do it with the fam too........how 'bout it kids??? And Hoke, Diane, James, Kay, Char and Mike? Char let me know next time ya'll plan on being in town and I'll plan a party. I promise you'll love it.

  2. What makes Grandma Happy? "Seeing us" meaning Rylle and Tanner and Mallory (yep, it's true)

Another special birthday for a special girl!

Happy Birthday BIG GIRL!! We Love you so much!!
I hope your birthday gift arrived! If it hasn't it should be there any day now! Hope you like it.

Fresh lemons anyone?

I have a bunch of fresh lemons to use up. Any good lemon recipes to use fresh lemons? Newel wants a lemon pie, but I've only ever made a lemon pie by using lemon pudding that you cook. Do you have a source for good fresh lemon ideas?
I guess I could squeeze them and freeze the juice for later.

A story to tell.............

If this chair could talk I'm sure it would have a great story to tell. My sister-in-law, Diane gave me this darling chair many years ago for my birthday. It was an old chair then and she fixed it all up with flowers in the seat, a garden sign and even a painted lady bug attached. I remember I saw it sitting in her yard, so cute and looking like spring! I squealed when she told me it was for me for my birthday! Diane always creates some of the cutest things!! Yipee!

OK, fast forward about 10 years or so, the flowers have since died and the sun and outdoors have taken it's toll, but it's so stinkin cute I could never part with it, so I just gave it a face lift.

Wa La.....a new lease on life for an old tired chair!

Guess what I'm doing tonight?????

Tell me something......cleaning lady comes tomorrow, so why am I cleaning tonight? Have you ever done that? I do it every time. I wouldn't call it cleaning.....maybe just picking up..........cuz I've found out that if things aren't put up and she puts them up I never see them again. Well, anyway, we blame it on her. So............ here's to a clean house tomorrow. I hate Thursday nights before she comes, but I love Friday nights after she's been here. Welcome LUCIA!! Tomorrow the place is all yours!

How come everyone's on SPRING BREAK but ME??? Bummer!!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Step right up and take a spin..............

How fun would this be..........planted on your refrigerator. Let the kids play, mom and dad play, heck everyone could play. You could let your family know what you need from them that particular day. Here's where I found it.

Here's another game that would be fun to play anywhere. Take it in the car, the kids could ask each other a question then spin....it would sure make cleaning the kitchen more fun when your kids are supposed to be loading the dishwaher.....use it in YW or in your Sunday School class....loads of fun. This one could also help you make decisions about your day. I'm going to go get me one tomorrow!~It will be a hoot next time the grand kids come over.

Hey, I think I know a few leprechauns...........cranky little fellows!! Do you know any?

Where's Waldo????????????

To heck with Waldo..........where's Jenny??? Jenny, I missed seeing you today! You did a WONDERFUL job singing at enrichment........I want you to sing at my funeral? OK, you have a lot of time to practice!! not that you need the practice, but because I'm not going anywhere for a long, long time!!

This is going to be expensive...............

I'm feeling like I want to do something different in my kitchen and ever since I found this blog I'm wanting red and white.............now what do I do with my dark granite counter tops and old world jars and bistro looking stuff? Why do I always have to change my mind? I'm so fickle!!

We're trying to be obedient.......

I don't ever remember this....thank goodness. I would have not made a good pioneer!!
But..... I do remember the wringer washer. I actually remember my Grandma Lofgreen using one. When I was a little girl it looked like such fun. Fun? I bet it didn't seem fun to my Grandma.
Now, this laundry room looks like fun!! Until you have to start the washer and actually do laundry, then the fun ends. I just want to look at it, not use it. Isn't it cute?!

They say to put things that you love but no longer use, such as this doll house, to playful yet practical use. Anchored to the wall with decorative brackets, it becomes the highlight in an otherwise understated room. Each room of the doll house makes an easy-to-access cubby for laundry supplies. Found it at Country Living.

Now here's the real reason for this post. The obedient part. A sister in our ward came over tonight, and told us about cheap, very good, best detergent she's ever used LAUNDRY DETERGENT. Recommended by the Queen of Clean. I think she said it comes out to cost about $1.00 a gallon. Here's the recipe:

Liquid Laundry Detergent: 3 Pints Water 1/3 bar Fels Naptha Soap, grated 1/2 cup Washing Soda (Arm and Hammer, NOT baking soda though!!) 1/2 cup 20 Mule Team Borax 2 Gallon bucket to mix it in 1 Quart hot water Additional Hot Water Mix Fels Naptha soap in a saucepan with 3 pints hot water and heat on low until dissolved. Stir in Washing Soda and Borax. Stir until thickened, and remove from heat. Add 1 Quart Hot Water to 2 gallon Bucket. Add soap mixture, and mix well. Fill bucket completely with additional hot water, and mix well. Set aside for 24 hours, or until mixture thickens. Use 1/2 cup of mixture per load.

Powdered Laundry Detergent 1 cup grated Fels Naptha Soap 1/2 cup washing soda 1/2 cup 20 mule team borax Mix and store in airtight container or bag. For normal loads, use 2 tablespoon. For heavy loads, use 3 tablespoons. Here's where I found the recipe.

Fels Naptha Soap is a fantastic stain remover and pre-treater. It works especially well on oil-based stains. Just rub the stain with a wet bar of Fels Naptha Soap. Let it sit for a while and launder as usual. It works great on baby clothes which have formula stains.

I'm going to order 12 bars from the above website. I'll let you know how it works!

Grandkids, sugar cookies and poker...................

What a way to spend the Sabbath. Mallory, Rylle and Tanner came over tonight for dinner and spent the evening. What a treat! Pappa made turkey tacos (Rylle's favorite), then the kids made sugar cookies and then, believe it or not, the kids wanted to play poker. Pappa knew how to play but they had to teach me. What a hoot playing poker with a 6 year old and he's better than I am at it. Go figure!

I'm moving..............

..............in with this family! Can you believe people really live in darling homes like this!! I found this dream place tonight while I was blog hopping. Be sure to click here to go Cherry Hill Cottage and you'll want to move in with her too!
